Vision for Air Taxis in Dubai Takes Flight

The construction of California-based Joby Aviation’s first vertiport in Dubai signals a major step forward in making eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) transportation a reality. Located at Dubai International Airport (DXB), this state-of-the-art facility is part of a broader network designed to integrate seamlessly with Dubai’s existing transport infrastructure. The three-story vertiport, equipped with advanced electric charging systems, is set to offer efficient and environmentally friendly travel options, with air taxis connecting key destinations like Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Downtown in minutes.

Joby’s exclusive six-year agreement with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) underscores the city’s commitment to pioneering Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). With the support of infrastructure partner Skyports, the vertiport network will deliver emission-free, hassle-free travel, reducing the time and environmental impact of journeys. For instance, trips that usually take 45 minutes by car will be cut to just ten minutes, setting a new standard for urban transportation.

Scheduled to launch in late 2025, Joby’s air taxi service will also link Dubai to Abu Dhabi, enabling travel between the two cities in just 30 minutes.
